Nominee: Illuminarium Experiences (in partnership with disguise)

Illuminarium Experiences, the digitally delivered experience venue, partnered with disguise, the leading platform which enables visual experiences of the highest level, to create multi-sensory Illuminariums that are “VR without the Goggles”.

Both teams worked together with system integrators at Electrosonic to integrate a powerful media playback system into 18,000 ft2 of projection space. This has pushed the limits of technology, working across 46 4K projectors, with disguise upgrading its vx 4 media server to offer up to 60 terabytes of super-fast SSDs and integrating real-time graphics through disguise’s proprietary RenderStream infrastructure, producing one of the largest immersive experiences.

  1. First-of-its-kind: The disguise-Illuminarium partnership has delivered a first-of-its-kind immersive entertainment initiative, transporting users to a wild African safari, from the Atlanta BeltLine, without the need for travel or VR headsets. disguise was chosen to provide unparalleled media playback systems and video server technology – pushing breath taking 4K content that has made Illumniarium one of the largest examples of real-time rendered content at this scale.
  2. Cutting-edge technology at its best: This multi- sensory journey could only be brought to life with the help of cutting-edge technology. 20 disguise’s unique vx 4 media servers and 12 of its rx rendering nodes powered real-time generated cinematic scenes at a 240-degree native field of view (versus the average 210-degree human field of view), surrounding visitors in a sensory space of sight, sound and scale. The challenges encountered through the project saw both teams work very closely together to provide ad hoc solutions that would later set a new standard in content rendering and become offerings that disguise would also provide to other customers, such as the upgrading of the media server’s storage space to 60 terabytes of super-fast SSDs.
  3. Cluster rendering has widened horizons in the industry: The Illuminarium project is one of the first to see disguise’s unique cluster rendering feature deployed. Developed in partnership with disguise and Epic Games, cluster rendering allows visuals on any scale to be rendered at unlimited scale and complexity. This is done by splitting video content into fragments that are each rendered by different disguise machines, increasing the overall render power of the content. The impact of this is instantly noticeable. Gone is the need to choose between ground-breaking graphics and large-scale visibility you can now have both. These solutions also solve latency issues that often come with projects that are larger than the limited processing power of an individual server or machine. Instead, users looking to create and deliver high-fidelity, photorealistic imagery at scale are able to let their imaginations run wild with no technology constraints.
  4. A real collaborative process: disguise and Illuminarium worked on the creation of an entire new workflow bible for this project to allow for iterations of the content over time. Different teams could now produce content to the same specs set by Illuminarium as they open up similar venues around the world. All of this work had to be documented in a way that would allow a new team to come in and produce content using those templates, ensuring the right codecs and frame rates throughout. Even the naming convention was all followed to allow for the project to work and be delivered at scale. This workflow template continues to be used in the deployment of Illuminarium’s upcoming venues around the US.
  5. A new innovative format that can and will be replicated: With upcoming venues in Las Vegas opportunity to further replicate this experience across the globe. The Illuminarium Experiences expansion includes the opening of new venues in US cities as well as future openings in the APAC region. The next five to seven years will likely see dozens of Illuminarium venues, with content creators from around the world coming together to create and deploy breath-taking content of unmatched scale with ultimate wow factor, all with the help of disguise’s remote collaboration workflow.

Nominee: HYPERVSN at the Albanian Ministry of Culture with Relsson

Gigantic Holographic Humans, including Albania’s Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, installed in the city square to celebrate the “Anniversary of Tirana”. This project created and installed by Relsson, a HYPERVSN Authorized Reseller, and was a one-off event to celebrate Tirana and showcase the futuristic vision of the country.

The 40-unit HYPERVSN Wall was installed to celebrate Tirana through holographic technology. The project was gigantic holographic humans, as well as a 11-minute combination of video and animation, depicting Tirana’s history through the ages suspended in mid-air in the City Square.

  1. The event was a great success, with the Media in Albania giving HYPERVSN and Relsson huge TV coverage and exposure including 24 minutes of TV coverage, and over 250k tracked engagements.
  2. Never before has a hologram-like solution of this size, let alone a holographic human of 4m x 1.5 m, been installed in a City centre.
  3. Innovative technology used to engage the younger demographic, successfully attracted them to the celebration of their country and culture using fresh, new technology.
  4. The installation was impressive and effective with holographic technology, that being a HYPERVSN Wall of 40 units, plus the modular wall structure which was used to assemble the units and link to the arch which is Relsson’s proprietary development.
  5. Custom holographic content, created by Relsson, included a 15-minute animated and recorded video on the history of Tirana plus a message from the prime minister and minister of culture as a holographic human.

Nominee: Panasonic

  1. Pioneering Immersive Projection: Panasonic is pioneering the creation of incredible immersive experiences through the use of projectors.   3. Resolution for every need: Panasonic offers the whole range of projector technologies and resolutions to enable users to create the immersive experience they require. From LCD Projectors with 4k input capability for the budget constrained, to 1-Chip and 3-Chip DLP Projectors with pixel shifting technologies to Native 4K Chipset in 3-DLP projector models for the ultimate in high resolution images.
  4. Invisible is important: Although projectors are an essential element in creating an immersive environment, they also need to remain an invisible technology, so as not to distract the audience from the immersive impact of the image. Panasonic focuses on producing the quietest and most compact projectors in all its ranges, alongside an incredibly wide variety of specialist Ultra Short Throw, Periscope and Fisheye lenses to ensure projectors can be easily hidden in ceilings or positioned in the most difficult of spaces.
  5. Reliability: In most attraction and entertainment venues projectors could be operating intensively for long periods. All Panasonic’s laser projector models contain built-in features to prevent black screen time. For example, all have a multi drive laser light source, so that should one light source fail, the projector can still operate. All laser models also feature a fail-safe input system ensuring that if an input fails, it will switch to a back-up without loss of image. All projectors come with a standard 3-year warranty or a guarantee of 20,000 hours of non-maintenance operation in normal mode – whichever comes first. Warranty extensions are available for up to 5-years and customised warranty plans are possible. Remote maintenance solutions are also available, with Panasonic monitoring the performance of the projectors remotely and providing servicing and maintenance as required.
